Want to be taken seriously? Look them straight in the eye.

Have you noticed how some people just can't look you straight in the eye? Have you noticed how their gaze shifts from left to right, up and down, focusing on everything but you? It's unimpressive isn't it? It makes a person look shy, uncertain, disinterested or even untrustworthy. In fact, did you know that when an average person looks to their upper right they're probably trying to recall something, but when they look up to the left there's a stronger possibility that they're making something up? Check it out next time you're trying to figure out if your best friend is telling you a whopper!

Have you also noticed that confident people look directly at you, make steady eye contact, and seem to give you their full attention, even if only crossing paths briefly? Even if they don't agree with you, their demeanor demonstrates that they respect your contribution.

It's the way giants communicate
with other giants...

A true giant will be reading your face and instantly drawing his own conclusions as to whether or not he wants any part of you in his world. You can bet too, that if you can't match him eye to eye, you've already branded yourself as a weakling! In the space of a handshake, a twitch oif the eye, or a nod of the head, you'll have either been "filed away" for future reference, or dismissed out of hand.

My background taught me to read faces, especially a person's eyes. In the world I came from it could mean the difference between life and death. Not only do I still read faces today, but when I look into the eyes of another giant we'll have exchanged more communication in a nanosecond, than Pentium chip could process in a week!

So for now remember one thing: if you want to be taken seriously, and seen as a leader, then talk and read with your eyes. It's the language of giants.
