The life of a professional athlete is an unusual one, and several factors make personal relationships difficult. The pressure of performing at an elite level requires significant support from friends and family, and without it, success is difficult to achieve. However, sometimes friends and family create a dysfunctional support environment, which can result in poor performance on the field. Or, the athlete can make poor choices involving friends, and joins them in self-destructive, and often illegal, activities.
And, because many professional athletes showed promise as children, they often missed out on normal childhood activities and experiences, choosing instead long hours of practice and adherence to strict diets. Though they achieve amazing feats on the field or court, they often lack emotional maturity and valuable experience in their personal lives, and make easy prey for freeloaders and bad influences. Combine that with the physical brutality of elite competition, and it's easy to see why so many young men are disappointed to learn that a pro athlete's life on "East Street" is far from easy. Some are even angry and bitter about it. Heart of a Champion gives players the tools they need to manage personal relationships, and build social and emotional maturity, which will ultimately improve performance on the court or field, and reduce the risk of damaging behavior. A standard group package consists of a two-hour workshop, at your facility, given by Burrel himself. Curriculum centers around Burrel's "Streetwise Strategies" ... tried-and-true rules for everyday living that foster success. Heart of a Champion applies these strategies to specific challenges professional athletes face in their personal relationships. The transformation continues with a follow-up program, where players can complete additional exercises online, at their own pace. If necessary, Burrel can return to the clubhouse to work with players one-on-one and address specific personal issues. Individual coaching is also recommended for:
Burrel can also address team issues, like continued motivation during a losing season, or a lack of team cohesion. Follow-up group sessions can be conducted via live webcast. Contact us to find out more about Burrel's Heart Of A Champion program. |
